South Fork American River – Action Whitewater Adventures

The South Fork of the American River in the Coloma / Lotus River Valley is a 22-mile, Class II-III river. Chosen and rafted by thousands annually for its convenient location, easy access, great whitewater, one and two-day rafting options as well as the rich history and beautiful environment. Action Whitewater Adventures offers you the best experiences to be had on the river: best staff, best gear, best meals. We’re always very excited to share the river’s beauty, challenges, and history with our amazing guests. The South Fork American River is 22-miles long and is broken down into 3 sections. We offer each section as a 1-day experience or you can break it down into a 2 day with camping and dinner at our beautiful campground.

CHILI BAR

Chili Bar (upper section), is a half day, 8-mile, 2-hour section with Class II-III rapids. This section starts off with a bang, within minutes you are navigating classic Class III rapids like Meatgrinder, Maya and 1st Threat, then you finish off this section with the largest rapid on the river Trouble Maker. After the excitement of running Trouble Maker it’s a nice mellow float through Coloma’s Gold History park back to camp. Once in camp we spoil you with a hot BBQ lunch (cheese burgers, hot dogs, chips and salsa, the works.) Photos and souvenirs are available at our camp store, before and after your trip. (Minimum Age of 7 years old or 50lbs and over, times can differ to the trip being longer or shorter due to changing water levels).

THE GORGE

Gorge (Lower Section), is a full day, 14-mile, 4-hour section with Class II-III rapids. This is our most popular section, excellent for kids and families. This section embarks from our beautiful campground, it’s a nice pleasant float, with some splashy Class II rapids to keep everyone laughing and cool until we arrive at our wilderness lunch spot. There you will have the pleasure of eating our gourmet deli lunch with options on different lunch meats, cheeses and breads. Not to mention the different types of veggies and toppings available for you to enjoy. After lunch we raft the canyon that names this section and that’s when we hit all the big Class III Rapids, Fowlers Rock, Satan’s Cesspool, Bouncing Rock, Hospital Bar and many more. Gorge Prices:

FULL RIVER

Full River is an all day, 22-mile, 6-hour section with Class II-III. This is the best of both worlds comprised of both the Chili Bar and Gorge sections combined in one day. With our famous hot BBQ Lunch. Photos and souvenirs are available at our camp store, before and after your trip. (Minimum Age of 7 years old or 50lbs and over, times can differ to the trip being longer or shorter due to changing water levels).

Full River Prices:

Wild Side Trips

Wild Side Trips are available on all 3 sections of the South Fork American River. What is a Wild Side Trip? A Wild Side Trip is where a party can upgrade to a small, 12ft raft to spice up the rafting experience. 4-person max per boat. What is the difference between a Standard Trip and a Wild Side Trip? A Standard Trip uses a 14ft raft that can accommodate up to 7 people in the raft. With the Wild Side Trip, you are grouped with a Class 4 guides and you get extremely soaked and the ride can be very exciting due to a smaller boat. Recommended for people with a Wild Side. Kids 7 -12 years old get a $20.00 discount off the Retail Price. (Unless the trip has already been discounted) Cancellations: Due to permit regulations and space availability, we are forced to deny other rafters once your reservation is received. Thus, cancellations received by written notice, 30-or more days prior to your trip launch date will receive a full refund less the deposit. For all cancellations received with less than 30-days written notice a refund will not be issued. Another party member can be substituted for the cancelling member without loss of monies deposited. Please forward new member’s information immediately as we’ll need to process trip paperwork with that individual. Cancellation due to Business Decision: Action Whitewater Adventures reserves the right to cancel any trip due to conditions outside of our control: water, weather or significant safety concerns. Should a cancellation of this nature occur, your money will be fully credited toward another rafting adventure. If we apprise the situation as too dangerous for any given number of reasons, Action Whitewater Adventures reserves the right to substitute another river adventure for the scheduled day with no refund or credit applied. If we are forced to cancel a trip due to lack of people scheduled/booked for a given day, your money will be fully refunded or applied to a future credit, you shall make the determination. All refunds and or credits will be limited to funds actually paid to Action Whitewater Adventures and will not include additional expenses incurred by guests. Additionally, Action Whitewater Adventures reserves the right to deny, any member of a group, access to the day of rafting if safety and or health are a concern (in our years this has only happened a couple of times when a guest demonstrated signs of extreme inebriation). The safety of the entire party must be considered in these personal, one on one, situations. In these cases, NO refunds OR credits are offered or are made available. Water Notice & Land Use Fee: Water flows in the South Fork of the American River result from hydroelectric facilities located upstream. Such water releases are not subject to the control of El Dorado County or commercial rafting companies operating under permits from the County of El Dorado. A 10% land use fee is added to all trips, our prices reflect this fee.
