FAQs
Q. I can't swim, can I still raft?
A. Yes you can! We have rafted many folks down the river who could not swim. Ultimately the decision is yours, you must trust our equipment and our crew. We use Coast Guard approved, class V whitewater vests.
Q. How many people fit in a raft?
A. Basically, 6 to 7. This can very depending on raft size, paddler size etc. We work diligently to make your experience the best it can be, often at the cost of our own profit. By in large we run the smallest fleet on the river. This means your ride is better than all our competitors and it means we cannot put as many people in our rafts as our competition does.
Q. We only have 1, 2 or 3 people who want to raft, can we still go?
A. If we have another trip running with space, SURE! If we do not, we have alternatives for you, so PLEASE, don't run away, just give an email or give a call. 888-922-8466
Q. What is the age MINIMUM and/or MAXIMUM for the South Fork of the American?
A. 7 to 70+ is the basic answer but here's the deal, what are you comfortable with? We had a 5-year old go that had more confidence, self-awareness and gumption than many of the teenagers we work with. He was clearly able to go rafting. Thing is, we don't want to frighten anyone. Rafting is fun and it should remain as such. If you have a child that you're CONFIDENT will keep his or her head about them if they fall into the river, then give an email or a call. The same can be said for maximum age. We took a 90-year old rafting, he was in great shape, very active and very outgoing, he knew he was fine for rafting.
Q. We want to have a JUST our family/group trip, can we?
A. Yes, yes. Charter trips vary in price depending on group size. Email with your group numbers and we'll get you a quote.
Q. Do you run any rivers aside from the South Fork of the American?
A. Yes, we run the Middle Fork of the American river as well. We run the Middle Fork of the American Monday - Friday. The Middle Fork is run in one day.
Q. What is the age MINIMUM and/or MAXIMUM for the Middle Fork of the American?
A. 14 to ? The Middle Fork is a longer day than the South Fork, too it is a Class IV - V river. So, much of the same philosophy above for the South Fork applies. Ultimately it's you must decide. We reserve to make the final decision after meeting but we cannot create a guideline that fits everyone.
Q. Accomodations, what are they like at camp?
A. It's camping; however, FREE hot water showers, FREE flushing toilets, SMALL camp store, FREE Wi-Fi at store. The camp does have 3 cabins for rent. 2 of the cabins are double occupancy, the other sleeps 4. These are in high demand as you can guess, so please, if this is something you want to do, DO NOT WAIT to call us and reserve your place so we can get you in touch with camp and increase your odds of getting a cabin.
Q. What if we don't want to raft but we want to come on vacation with the rest of our group?
A. That's fine, we can work out a special package for you: camping and meal costs.
